With the push to improve literacy the benefits of using blogs in the classroom will be positive.
Not only will students know and see their work published, which will be an incentive for them to do their best work but they will also get to see the work of others.
Sitting here on Easter Sunday eve, I am already thinking how I can use a blog in the classroom in the first week back at school.
Creating it was easy and there was a very good link 'Creating student journals' that provides some good information on how to get students to use a blog.

Great post, Michael, re the incentive/motivation that can be generated through the use of Blogs.
That's actually a very good point Michael. I actually feared that with students always 'online' they would lose their literacy skills with things like spell check.I guess getting them to write for an audience could in fact improve the quality of their writing.
I'm still so new to all this blog stuff and I'm struggling!!
